Areas

Areas group Equipment under a Site. They have no OEE configuration of their own — only a name and description.

An Area is a container that lives between a Site and its Equipment. Areas exist purely to organize equipment in a way that mirrors your physical layout — a packaging line, a CNC cell, a warehouse zone — and they have no OEE settings of their own.

Area configuration — name and description, nothing else

Configuration

When an Area is selected on the OEE Sites page, the right-hand pane shows a single Area tab with two fields:

Field
Required
Notes

Area name

Yes

Display name.

Description

No

Free-text, multi-line. Useful for capturing the physical location, the line owner, or operational notes.

That’s the entire configuration surface. All OEE behavior — calculations, shifts, planned stops, stop causes, products — lives on the Equipment under the Area, not on the Area itself.

Why Areas exist

Areas exist to group Equipment under a Site so the tree mirrors how the plant is actually organized. Two practical effects:

  • Structure in the tree. The OEE Sites tree has three levels (Site → Area → Equipment) — without Areas, every Site would be a flat list of equipment, which doesn’t scale beyond a handful of machines.

  • Bulk operations on the tree. Renaming, deleting, or moving an Area applies to everything underneath it. Disabling OEE on every Equipment in an Area is a per-Equipment action — see the warning below.

Creating, renaming, deleting

See Site Structure. Areas can only be added under a Site, and they can only contain Equipment.
